The Staten Island Ferry is one of New York’s greatest hidden treasures. The free ride features million dollar views that wow tourists and commuters alike. During the week, five boats are used to make one hundred and nine trips transporting sixty thousand passengers from one island to the other. Over the past seven years, the New York City Department of Transportation has taken on three new ferries: the Guy V. Molinari, the Senator John J. Marchi, and the Spirit of America, which was built from steel from the World Trade Center Towers. Each new boat cost about forty million dollars.
