Ping Pong in the Park

By Madison Back

What is big, concrete, and bringing people together to meet?

Just ask Alan Good, founder of Henge, Inc., the man bringing concrete ping pong tables to urban parks all over the country.  The latest, installed in Tompkins Square Park, is already drawing participants at all hours of the day.  Good sees it as more than just a free recreational activity: “I think of it as not so much a cool object that you can play table tennis on, but like a pub, like a bar, you know where you kind of hang out and you see stuff.”
