Jaywalking: Shameful Indulgence or Compelling Necessity?

Over the years, traffic-related accidents have been on the decline, fortunately, but Mayor Bill De Blasio’s new Vision Zero Plan seeks to obliterate any possible flaws left in road safety measures. Not only has Vision Zero targeted vehicles, preventing speeding and other violations like running red lights that add to an unsafe environment, but cyclists and pedestrians are being involved in the proposed betterment too.

In downtown Manhattan, citizen express their concerns with jaywalking, and yet contend the government’s proposition to distribute tickets for this offense that many New Yorkers have long considered a right. Whether or not Mayor De Blasio will face serious opposition is yet to be seen, but the general consensus does not appear to be in favor of imposing rules for those on foot.
